Two ways to start

Already played rugby?

Bring your college club, position, recent playing experience and goals into the conversation. Ask about the current playing group, the season calendar, selection and registration before making a commitment.

Introduce yourself to OMBAC →

Coming from another sport?

Football, wrestling, soccer, basketball and track can give you useful experience of competition and training. Rugby’s passing, positioning and contact skills still need coaching. Tell the club you are new so you can discuss the right introduction.

What changes after college?

Your schedule is your own

Club rugby fits alongside work, further study and life outside sport. Before committing, ask about weekly training, match-day availability and travel. Be clear about the time you can give.

You help choose your pathway

Experienced rugby player? Ask about positions, selection and the current squad. New to rugby? Discuss coaching and how to join an appropriate first session before taking part.

Ask about the full commitment

Get current dues, registration and equipment details directly from the club. If you played for another rugby club, ask what transfer or clearance steps apply.

A new city gets a little smaller

If you are moving to San Diego, introduce yourself before you arrive. Share your arrival date and playing background so you can plan a first visit rather than wait until you feel settled.

Turn interest into a first session.

Put together a short introduction: your previous sport, school or club, rugby experience, availability and what you want from your next team. If you are relocating, add your expected arrival date.

OMBAC’s current senior training is Tuesday and Thursday, 6–8 p.m. Pacific at North Clairemont. Confirm arrangements with the club before attending.

Questions graduates often ask

How do I find a rugby club after college?

Start with where you will live and work. Compare a club’s training location, weekly commitment, coaching, dues and match travel, then contact it about a first session. If you are moving to San Diego, OMBAC welcomes inquiries from graduates across the United States.

Can I contact OMBAC before moving to San Diego?

Yes. Include your expected arrival date, previous sport or rugby club, experience and availability in the Join OMBAC form. The club can discuss a first visit before you relocate.

Can I start rugby at 21 or older?

You can learn rugby as an adult. OMBAC welcomes new players. Tell the club about your experience and fitness so you can discuss an appropriate first session; playing and selection arrangements are confirmed by the club.

Do I need college rugby experience?

No. Former high school and college athletes from other sports are welcome to inquire, as are people without a competitive sporting background.

What if I have not played for a few years?

Explain your previous experience and how long you have been away. Ask about returning to training and the current registration requirements before joining contact activity.

Does joining guarantee a place in a team?

No. Discuss current teams, selection, development and match opportunities with the club. An inquiry is an introduction, not a promise of a roster place.
