A legacy of grit, sand, and success

OMBAC Rugby's story isn't just about tackles, tries, and trophies. It's a tale of community and the unwavering spirit of Old Mission Beach woven into the fabric of American rugby. Pick a decade and walk through it.

1954

Sand, surf, and a club is born

Through the 1930s and 40s, beachgoers, surfers, swimmers and the regulars at hubs like The Beachcomber built the social athletic networks that ran Mission Beach. In 1954 they formalised it: the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club was incorporated as a multi-sport club. That same year, its founders invented Over-The-Line on the sand — a game that grew into the World Championship OTL Tournament at Fiesta Island and became OMBAC's social and financial anchor for the next seventy years.
